Welcome to the Chelsea Heights Football
Club homepage.
Chelsea Heights Football Club's home is located at
Beazley Reserve on Thames Promenade, Chelsea Heights.
The club plays in the Southern Football League in Metropolitan
Melbourne. Historically, the club made its ground in
the now redundant South West Gippsland Football League,
where it played teams from the Mornington Peninsula
and Westernport Bay areas.
More recently, success has come in the SFL, with the
club celebrating Senior Premierships at Division 3 level
in 1995, and Division 2 in 2000. Since establishing
itself in Division 1 in 2001, Chelsea Heights has featured
regularly at the business end of the season, having
appeared in finals between 2002-2005, and having its
most successful year in 2009 appearing in the Grand
Final for the first time in Division 1, losing to a
superior StKilda City outfit on the day.
The club is constantly striving to go one step further.
With a strong level of committment by all concerned,
could this year be "The Year of the Heights".
With Thanks to our Valued Sponsors.

Beazley Reserve Hosts First Quadruple
Header
History was made again on Saturday with
Chelsea Heights hosting four home games at Beazley Reserve
on one day for the first time in its history. Credit
must be given to the SFL for enabling the fixturing
times to accomodate this schedule of matches, but the
results were strongly worthwhile with a good crowd in
early to provide plenty of atmosphere as the day built
towards a big contest in the main event. With the boys
from 88.3fm present, it was all happening, and the seniors
didn't disappoint notching up a decisive victory against
our neighbouring rival in Mordialloc.
The Player Auction was commenced after the
game, however it was disappointing to see a small gallery
of bidders in attendance when proceedings kicked off
at 6.30pm. While the numbers improved over the night,
there are several teams that remain unsold, and so there
will be opportunities at Thursday night training to
purchase the remaining groups and 'take ownage' of one
of your favourite players or teammates.
Welcome Recruits for 2010
The club and coaching staff are very pleased
to welcome a large number of recruits to the club for
season 2010, and can report that all have fitted in
well with the culture and attitude to pre-season that
is required for us to improve on last year's result.
Among the most accomplished of those new
introductions are Phil Smith, a ruckman/forward who
has played SFL with distinction in the past. Defenders
Trent Downie and Rhett Moor and skillful utility Mark
Fitcher have all taken on a new challenge crossing from
Edithvale-Aspendale in the off-season, with plenty of
senior footy between them. Rob Murphy is a hard and
creative ball-winner from Warragul who will also find
his place in the team.
A number of other players who will be pushing
for senior selection include Matt and Dan Bastin (Lyndale),
Duke Jenkin (Nagambie), Jesse Ziino (Karingal), John
Bolding (Catani), Al Goulden (Edi-Asp) and a host of
last years Colts players, meaning our depth should be
strong with competition hot for selection.
On a sadder note, we see the end of the
road to two men who have made a fantastic contribution
to the club on the field. Travis Coote and David Jensen
have both announced their retirements after long and
distinguished careers spanning over a decade, including
the 2000 Div 2 Premiership, in which they both played
important roles. Congratulations to both and although
they will be recognised more formally throughout the
year, we wish them all the best in life after footy
and look forward to seeing them around the club.
2010 Coaching Staff Appointed
It is with great pleasure that we announce
the re-appointment of Ryan Flack (Seniors), Rick Bean
(Reserves) and Lee Thwaites (Colts) in their capacity
as head coaches of their respective sides after strong
results in 2009. In addition, we are also thrilled to
have committed to the introduction of a 3rds side in
2010 which will be ably led by club stalwart, 2009 Reserves
Captain, and all-round popular guy, Jeff Almond.
We pass on our sincere thanks to Michael
Roberts who has stood aside as co-coach of the Colts
after having helped Lee in establishing the team in
2009.
In a final word on coaching, we congratulate
Senior coach Ryan Flack on being awarded the Division
1 Coach of the Year at the SFL League presentation night.
Congratulations Phil Matheson - 2009
Best and Fairest
It was a tightly
contested vote count that saw Phil Matheson emerge as
the 2009 Best & Fairest winner, and a more deserving
winner you couldn't find. Playing in a Grand Final side
as a 5'11 Centre Half Forward is virtually unheard of,
much less combined with the ability to control matches
from his position. But for most of the year that was
Matho's brief. A quiet achiever, his consistency showed
through to poll 91 votes over a hot field to win from
Troy Ogier (77), Ash Roberts (71), Paul Wineberg (56)
and Darren Walsh (52)
The Reserves was
won by Tim Grant (75) with Jarryd Uren (56), Luke Williams
(55) Chris Hanns(55), and David Cross (53) in a close
bunch behind. The Colts was won by Dale Finn (131),
from James Spicer (123), Adam Chalmers (106) Cody Anderson
(70) and Col Masterson (45).
Congratulations to all award winners
on the night.
Cheerio to The Colonel as Heights
support Call to Arms
Everyone at the
Heights sends out a vote of support to Ben Bradley,
lifetime contributor and 20+year Treasurer, and also
currently Secretary, who has recently undergone treatment
for Prostate Cancer. We hope you get well soon Ben and
get back up and about in time to cheer the Heights on
at the business end of the season.
Many people at
the club have been touched in some way by cancer in
recent times and this is an opportunity to reinforce
the message for people to be aware and diligent of their
health, and to not be afraid to see their doctor for
a check-up. The Heights also
contributed to Call-to-Arms day through fundraising
efforts and yellow arm bands in the game against Mordialloc,
as part of a campaign to raise the profile of Mens Health
in particular, and Cancer research in general.
The front page
spread in the local 'Independant' newspaper acknowledged
our contribution to this important cause - featuring
the two 'Zoolanders' Cossie and Walshy.
